Continental Joins Star Alliance

From the 17 December, Continental passengers will be able to transfer to Lufthansa or Lufthansa Italia at Milan Malpensa Airport.
Continental is now a full member of the Star Alliance, all Lufthansa passengers will also have access on Continental flights to products and benefits offered by the world’s largest airline alliance such as lounge access for status customers. Additionally, members of Lufthansa’s frequent flyer programme Miles & More and Continental’s loyalty programme One Pass will be able to earn and redeem miles on all the partner airlines flights.
From 31 October, all Continental flights between the United States and Germany will also be bookable under a Lufthansa flight number. This applies to the services operated daily between Newark (New York) and Hamburg, Berlin Tegel and Frankfurt, as well as to the new route between Houston and Frankfurt, which Continental will launch on 2 November. In addition, Lufthansa customers will have a choice of convenient connections to 37 destinations in the United States via Continental’s hubs at Newark and Houston.
The Star Alliance network was established in 1997 as the first truly global airline alliance to offer worldwide reach, recognition and seamless service to international traveller. Its acceptance by the market has been recognised by numerous awards, including the Air Transport World Market Leadership Award, Best Airline Alliance by both Business Traveller Magazine and Skytrax.
The member airlines are: Adria Airways, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Blue1, bmi, Continental Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EGYPTAIR, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Spanair, SWISS, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, THAI, United and US Airways. Aegean Airlines, Air India, Brussels Airlines and TAM have been announced as future members. Overall, the Star Alliance network offers 19,534 daily flights to 1,071 airports in 171 countries.
